Hermann Starke (1870 - 1920) was a prolific composer in Germany. he served in the German Army as a sergeant and clarinettist, but he became world renowned when his march "Mit Schwert und Lanze" (With Sword and Lance) was placed first in 1900 in Boosey & Son's march competition (London).
