BALLYGOWAN FLUTE BAND

Leo R. Stanley

Randolph Robjent Ricketts was a Royal Marine Bandmaster who composed under the pseudonym of Leo Stanley. He was in fact  the younger brother of Frederick Joseph Ricketts (better known as Kenneth J. Alford).

His famous march The Contemptibles was first recorded by the Royal Marine Band in 1918, and he was also responsible for Pagentry, Pompadours and Aldershot to name just a few.

Randolph Ricketts was originally a French horn player with the Royal Irish Rifles and he received his military band training (like his more famous older brother) at Kneller Hall. It is doubtful if any two brothers before or since composed such high calibre marches.
