BALLYGOWAN FLUTE BAND

Windsor Hylands joined Ballylesson "Old Boys" Flute Band when he was eight years old. His father, brother and other family relations had been players in the Band for many years.
Subsequently he transferred to Ormeau Military as their flute and piccolo player. After some years of private study he gained the L.T.C.L Teachers Diploma from Trinity College of Music, London. During this period he learned to play the horn, and also studied other instruments in the band. At the age of 22 years, he was appointed their Musical Director.
Over the years he has been Musical Director of Military, Concert, Brass, Flute and Accordion Bands. He has conducted numerous winning performances, and gained many other prizes at various competitions in Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and the Isle of Man. In addition, he has conducted several bands on radio and television concerts.
He was engaged to take two seminars for a Concert Band and also appointed by the N.I.B.A. to be responsible for their conductors class, which was organised to train new conductors for the local band scene.
Dr. Hylands was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Flute Band League to arrange World Championship Test Pieces and also by the Accordion Band League to arrange a test piece for the Senior Accordion section of the N.I.B.A. Championship Contest. Moreover, he has adjudicated at numerous band competitions and music festivals, including N.I.B.A. World Championship Flute and Irish Championships, various events organised by the Northern Ireland Accordion, Brass and Flute Band Leagues, competitions for the Irish Association of Brass and Military Bands, Scottish Championships and also band festivals organised by the Irish Tourist Board in Dublin, Limerick and Galway.
Dr. Hylands has only recently retired from banding having most recently been the Musical Director of the Ballygowan Flute Band, winners of several N.I.B.A. World Championship, Flute Band League and Scottish Band Association contests.
